Getting to this point: Well, it is official. We are now proud owners of 36.25 acres in the Sand Valley area of Attalla, Alabama. We signed our lives away on Wednesday (3/19/08). We’ve been looking forward to finally owning this property for many months now. It all started last summer when we were driving around in the Sand Valley/ Duck Springs area looking for a place to call home. We spotted this little piece of heaven and decided to investigate. After some research we came up with the owners contact information and gave her a call. Much to our surprise she was interested in selling it since both of her parents had recently passed away and she had no desire to make a new beginning for herself on the property. All this transpired in September ’07 and was followed by months of talks, negotiations, and finally seeing the property surveyed and the papers drawn up and signed. We had no idea that getting to this point would be such an ordeal, but we both believe that it will be worth it.
Why the land?
So why are we buying so much property and committing ourselves to a life long project? Of course we want to be able to enjoy the beauty and serenity…to have a place for our future kids to roam, play, hunt, have friends over, and teach them values & hard work… to plant fruit trees and vegetable gardens. But we really desire it to be a blessing to our friends, family, and neighbors by using as God leads…it is our heart’s prayer that Our Father would be glorified in our home and through our homestead.
What’s Ahead?
Currently, we are renting an old farmhouse and looking forward to moving down to Armbrester Acres. However, we are planning on doing it in a little bit of an unconventional way. We plan to build a structure that looks like a barn but will function downstairs like a shop and upstairs as an apartment - which we’ve dubbed “The Barnartment.” Much of our blogs for the next year will focus on planning, building, and making our transition into the Barnartment. Stay tuned for an interesting journey.
